logo-cv2.jpgJoel Fontaine was born in Bethune (France) in 1971. He obtained his PhD in Biological Sciences Fundamental and Applied in 2001 at the University of the Littoral Cote d’Opale. After a position of Teaching Assistant and Research in Calais, he conducted postdoctoral work one year in the microbiology unit of the Catholic University of Louvain La Neuve. In 2004, he became Assistant Professor at the University of the Littoral Cote d’Opale, where he studied the impact of fungicides inhibiting sterol biosynthesis of mycorrhizal symbiosis in the European project Fungimyc (MEST-CT-2004 -514,213). In 2012, he supports his Habilitation Lead Research entitled « Impact of fungicides inhibiting sterol biosynthesis and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons on lipid metabolism partners in the arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiosis » at the University of Littoral Cote d’Opale.

His current research interests are within the general framework of mushroom plants mycorrhizal interactions in a context of historically phytoremediation of polluted soils.
The main aspects that are studied: (i) The impact of various pollutants (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, furans, dioxins, trace metals, …) on the development and lipid metabolism partners of the arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiosis ( ii) the contribution of arbuscular mycorrhiza in protecting plants against oxidative stress induced by these persistent pollutants and phytoremediation of polluted soils historically.
